I ran Ahrefs against 42 AI directories on September 10, 2026, and only 27 of them pull meaningful Google traffic. Submit to There’s An AI For That, Open Future, Aixploria, Toolify.ai and AI Agent Store first. Domain Rating is close to useless for choosing between the rest, because its rank correlation with actual traffic is 0.01.
Most rankings of the best AI tool directories are sorted by Domain Rating, and that is why they keep recommending dead sites. 5 directories in this audit carry a Domain Rating of 70 or higher and get fewer than 30 organic visits a month between them. The worst of them reaches DR 91.
I keep a database of 348 SaaS and AI directories, so I checked mine the same way. 2 rows failed. That included my own site, which is why ZPlatform is not in the ranked table below.
This page answers one question: where should you actually spend the afternoon you set aside for directory submissions? Every entry here is ranked by estimated monthly Google organic visits, measured on the same day, not by backlink strength.
A quick note on scope. AI tool directories curate products into browsable categories and keep the listing up permanently, which is a different use case from a launch board where you get one dated shot at a vote.
Both are useful. Only the first kind is on this page.
Start here: The five directories worth your first hour
If you submit to nothing else, submit to these. Figures are Ahrefs estimated monthly organic visits as of September 10, 2026.
- There’s An AI For That at roughly 1,129,435 visits a month. Paid $49+. Task-based discovery, and the largest audience in this set by a wide margin. A big share of its traffic is adult queries.
- Open Future at roughly 158,535 visits a month. Free. The highest-traffic free listing here. Broad coverage and multilingual tool pages, with no badge requirement.
- Aixploria at roughly 136,683 visits a month. Paid $79+. Editorial and directory hybrid reaching both English and French audiences.
- Toolify.ai at roughly 102,263 visits a month. Paid $99+. General index. Roughly a fifth of its top-page traffic is news, so discount the headline number.
- AI Agent Store at roughly 65,677 visits a month. Paid $49.99+. The only agent-specific directory here with a real audience. One profile drives more than half its total.
Only one of the five, Open Future, takes a free listing. Start there, see whether the referral traffic justifies anything else, and only then reach for a card.
The 27 best AI directories, ranked by Google traffic
Every row cleared a screening bar of roughly 30 estimated organic visits a month and a Domain Rating of 50 or above. Traffic and DR were measured on September 10, 2026. Listing prices come from each directory’s own submission page and change often enough that you should look again before paying.
| Directory | Est. visits/mo | DR | Tier | Listing | Why it qualifies |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| #1There’s An AI For That | ~1,129,435 | 77 | Tier 1 | Paid $49+ | Task-based discovery, and the largest audience in this set by a wide margin. A big share of its traffic is adult queries. |

| #9AI Tools Inc | ~38,260 | 67 | Tier 1 | Free | Free general listing with a solid mid-range audience. One of the best free-to-value ratios here. |
| #10Open Tools | ~31,815 | 69 | Tier 1 | Paid $199+ | Broad general index. The paid tier is steep for this traffic level. |
| #11AI Top Tools | ~29,232 | 54 | Tier 2 | Paid $7+ | Cheapest paid entry in the set, which makes it an easy test of whether paid listings do anything for you. |
| #12Siteefy | ~24,655 | 77 | Tier 2 | Freemium $19+ | Editorial and directory hybrid with a low-cost freemium slot. |
| #13AI Tools Directory | ~20,381 | 52 | Tier 2 | Free | Second-best free option after Open Future, and a quick form. |

| #15GPT-3 Demo Specialized | ~12,310 | 65 | Tier 2 | Unknown | GPT and LLM demos. Specialised, and worth it when your product is built on a foundation model. |
| #16AI Pure | ~9,503 | 57 | Tier 2 | Paid $69.89+ | General directory. Borderline value at this price point. |
| #17TopAI.tools | ~8,946 | 64 | Tier 2 | Paid $47 | General directory with wide keyword coverage for its size. |
| #18Tool Pilot | ~3,564 | 78 | Tier 3 | Free | Free listing. High DR but a thin audience, so submit because it costs nothing rather than for the traffic. |
| #19AI With Me | ~3,132 | 58 | Tier 3 | Paid $19.89+ | Low paid price point that matches the size of the audience. |
| #20Saas AI Tools | ~2,939 | 53 | Tier 3 | Free | Free directory sitting in the SaaS and AI overlap, which suits B2B tools. |
| #21eBool Specialized | ~1,579 | 51 | Tier 3 | Paid | The best option here for AI browser extensions. |
| #22AIChief | ~1,540 | 56 | Tier 3 | Paid $99+ | General directory. Check its traffic yourself before paying, because the fee is high for this band. |
| #23Dokey AI | ~1,306 | 56 | Tier 3 | Free | Free listing with a small audience and no downside to submitting. |
| #24Twelve Tools | ~1,306 | 82 | Tier 3 | Freemium $36+ | The clearest DR-versus-traffic gap in the set: very high authority, very small audience. |
| #25Next Gen Tools | ~970 | 69 | Tier 3 | Free | Free. High DR, thin audience, so treat it as a link rather than a channel. |
| #26AI Tool NET | ~943 | 56 | Tier 3 | Paid $9.9+ | Very cheap paid entry for quick coverage. |
| #27Aijet | ~837 | 53 | Tier 3 | Free | Free, and near the bottom of the useful range. |
All 27 AI-focused directories in one fixed order: estimated monthly Google organic visits, highest first. Traffic and DR are Ahrefs data measured September 10, 2026; listing prices were checked by hand and change often, so confirm before paying. 2 AI directories cleared DR 50 but fell under 30 visits a month, so they are named rather than ranked (GPTs Hunter and ZPlatform AI).
Tier 1 is the 10 directories above 30,000 estimated visits a month, and they are worth real effort including a paid slot if the price fits. Tier 2 is the 7 between 5,000 and 30,000, worth the submission time. The 10 in Tier 3 have audiences small enough that I would only submit where the listing is free and the form takes under five minutes.
Size is not the same as quality here. A hand-curated list carries far fewer tools than a scraped index, and the traffic column shows several of the curated ones out-earning the bigger catalogues. Judge a directory on the audience it reaches, not the number of tools it claims.
How do I submit my AI tool to a directory?
The mechanics are close to identical across every directory in the table, which means you can prepare once and submit 27 times.
Write your assets before you open a single submission form. You need a tool name, a URL, a one-line description under 100 characters, a longer description of 150 to 300 words, a logo as a square PNG, two or three screenshots, a pricing label (free, freemium or paid), and three to five category tags. Keep all of it in one document.
Then work the list from the top down:
- Check whether your tool is already listed. Larger directories scrape and pre-populate entries, and claiming an existing listing is faster than creating one.
- Submit the free tier first, everywhere. Never pay on your first pass.
- Match your category tags to categories the directory already has. A tag that does not exist on their site gets dropped or rejected.
- Use a real founder email. Approval notices and claim links land there, and several directories reject free inboxes.
- Log the date, the URL and the tier you used. You will want that record when a listing quietly disappears.
Approval takes anywhere from a day to several weeks on free tiers. Paid tiers usually publish within 48 hours, which is most of what you are buying.
One warning about badges. Several directories approve your free listing only if you embed their badge on your site, which puts a link to them on every page you own. That is a real cost rather than a free listing, and it is worth declining unless the directory sits in your top ten.
Free AI directories, and what a zero-budget pass buys you
12 of the 27 directories take a listing without charging, either free outright (9) or through a free queue with a paid priority option (3). The full free-or-freemium set is: Open Future, Future Tools, Dang AI, AI Tools Inc, Siteefy, AI Tools Directory, Tool Pilot, Saas AI Tools, Dokey AI, Twelve Tools, Next Gen Tools, Aijet.
Open Future is the standout, and at roughly 158,535 estimated monthly visits it carries a larger audience than any other free option in this set.
Be clear about what a zero-budget pass buys you. Those 12 venues reach about 333,986 estimated monthly visits between them, which is 17% of the 1,940,169 across all 27 ranked directories.
Most of that sits in Open Future alone, and the single largest directory on this page charges. Submitting free everywhere is the right first move, but it buys you a fraction of the reachable audience rather than most of it.
Are AI directory rankings reliable?
Not when they are sorted by Domain Rating, and that covers most of the ones you will find.
DR is a backlink metric. Google does not use it, and Ahrefs has never suggested reading it as a traffic proxy. In a mature category it usually tracks editorial quality anyway, because good editorial earns links.
AI directories are not a mature category. Plenty of them bought or badge-farmed their way to a high DR while ranking for nothing.
I computed the relationship across all 42 domains:
- Pearson correlation, DR against traffic: 0.20
- Spearman rank correlation, DR rank against traffic rank: 0.01
- Pearson, DR against log traffic: -0.02
A Spearman of 0.01 means sorting these directories by DR tells you nothing useful about which ones people actually visit. You would do about as well shuffling them.
Filtering harder on DR makes this worse rather than better. Median estimated traffic among the DR 60 and above group is 3,564 visits. Among the 12 directories at DR 70 and above it drops to 2,435.
The High-DR Directories With No Audience
These 5 carry a Domain Rating of 70 or higher and still fail the 30-visit screening bar. On a DR-sorted list they would appear in the top five.
| Directory | DR | Est. visits/mo |
|---|---|---|
| AI Tools Neil Patel | 91 | 5 |
| Turbo0 | 80 | 1 |
| ShowMeBest.ai | 76 | 0 |
| Good AI Tools | 74 | 0 |
| Orynth | 74 | 0 |
Backlink profiles outlive the sites that earned them. A directory can shut down, redirect somewhere else, or simply stop being indexed, and its Domain Rating will sit there unchanged for months. That is long enough to keep it near the top of every list that sorts by that number.
The 30-Second test before you pay for a listing
Before any paid submission, run this on the directory itself.
Open Ahrefs, Semrush or any free traffic checker and look up the directory’s domain. Read the estimated monthly organic traffic and ignore DR completely. Then check where that traffic lands: if the top pages are all blog posts and news, the tool profiles are not what people are visiting, and your listing sits outside the traffic.
Here is how I read the number:
| Est. Google organic visits | What I do |
|---|---|
| Under 500 a month | Submit only if it is free and takes under five minutes. |
| 500 to 5,000 | Worth submitting when the category genuinely fits. Rarely worth $50+. |
| 5,000 and above | Worth investigating. Check the traffic mix and audience fit before paying. |
The whole check takes about thirty seconds per directory, and it is the reason my own site is not on the ranked list above.
Best AI directories by product type
The general directories cover most products, but a few categories have a better home. 3 of the 27 here are specialised rather than general catalogues, and the best of them is AI Agent Store.
A specialised directory converts better than a wider one when your product fits its niche, because the visitor is already on the page for that exact category. Developer tooling that plugs into a coding workflow is usually better served by a protocol-level listing than a general index, which is why I keep a separate list of the best MCP servers.
Automation and workflow products are the awkward case. They fit the general AI directories fine, but their buyers rarely browse directories, so treat those listings as backlinks and discovery surface rather than an acquisition channel.
Coverage beats any single listing
Submit to more than one, and not for the traffic. Past the top five, the direct referral traffic from any single listing is small. What you are building is coverage: a consistent name, description and category across enough sites that both Google and the answer engines see the same account of your product repeated by third parties.
This is the part that changed most in 2026. When someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity to recommend a tool for a specific use case, the answer gets assembled from pages the model can retrieve, and well-indexed AI tool directories are exactly the kind of page that gets retrieved. A listing on a directory with real Google traffic is now doing two jobs: it can send you a visitor, and it can put your product into an answer.
That is also why the description you write once matters more than the number of forms you fill in. Keep the wording identical across all 27.
Directories are only half of it. A dated launch with a public vote is a different mechanism with a different payoff, and those belong on the best places to launch your AI tool. This page deliberately excludes launch platforms, SaaS marketplaces and general company databases: 200 of the 348 venues in the database failed that test before traffic came into it.
Methodology and Limits
The starting set was the AI-focused directories in a 348-row database I maintain. Launch platforms, SaaS marketplaces and general company databases were excluded before measurement, because they work differently and belong on a different page. A further 119 AI-focused venues sit below the DR 50 floor and are tracked in the database without appearing here.
I pulled `domain_rating` and `org_traffic` from the Ahrefs `batch-analysis` endpoint in `subdomains` mode on September 10, 2026. The screening bar is roughly 30 estimated monthly organic visits. 27 directories cleared it and are ranked; 2 cleared the DR floor but not the traffic bar (GPTs Hunter and ZPlatform AI) and are named rather than ranked.
This measures estimated Google organic visibility and nothing else. It is one consistent third-party number across all 42 domains, which is exactly what makes it useful for comparison and useless as proof of referral ROI.
Ahrefs derives it from ranked keywords, estimated search volume and estimated click curves, so treat it as a screening metric. Direct visits, newsletters, YouTube audiences, social followers and paid referrals all sit outside what I measured.
About This Audit
Written by Alston Antony, founder of ZPlatform. I have bought and tested more than 500 tools with my own money, and I have run audits like this against SaaS directories, AI directories and startup lists for the last three years.
Last measured: September 10, 2026. Every figure on this page is regenerated from that measurement, so a stale number here is a bug rather than an oversight. If you run a directory you think belongs here, email alston@zplatform.ai and I will measure it the same way rather than adding it on trust.
