I first reviewed Morningscore five years ago in a one-hour video, when it was a decent rank tracker with a fun gamification layer. For this 2026 review I went back through every section of the live demo and compared it against Semrush, Ahrefs and dedicated rank trackers. The video is below; the coupon code mentioned in the pricing section is in it.

What Morningscore is

Morningscore is an all-in-one SEO tool for small business owners, solopreneurs and non-technical users. It covers the same core territory as Semrush or Ahrefs (keyword research, rank tracking, backlink analysis and site audits) and now GEO features that track how ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews surface your site. The difference is presentation: audit findings become missions with XP rewards, and you level up as your visibility improves.

It is built in Odense, Denmark, has been shipping since 2018, and runs entirely in the browser with no download. Google Search Console and Google Analytics connect for your own traffic data, and an API exists for external reporting on every plan. If you want more options in the same space, our roundup of the best AI SEO tools covers 30 tested picks.

The Overview dashboard in six numbers

Morningscore dashboard showing SEO Score, GEO Score, Keywords, Link Score, SEO Health, and GPT Tracker metrics
  • SEO Score, expressed in USD/month, estimates the monetary value of your organic traffic from keyword rankings.
  • Keywords shows total tracked keywords with position changes.
  • GEO Score is your AI visibility percentage: how often your site surfaces in AI-generated responses.
  • Google AIO counts keywords where you appear in Google AI Overviews.
  • SEO Health is a 0-100 score from the site audit.
  • Link Score is a gamified backlink strength score.

An XP bar at the top shows your level and how far you are from the next one. Below the cards sit SEO and GEO score trends over time, a top-performing keyword list and a site health snapshot. As a daily check-in screen it is clearer than Semrush’s home screen.

Missions turn the audit into a to-do list

Morningscore Missions tab showing gamified SEO tasks with XP rewards, difficulty ratings, ROI labels, and progress bars

Each mission is a specific SEO task: get a link from a particular high-authority domain, move a target keyword from position 19 to 7, fix broken internal links, connect Google Search Console. Every mission has a difficulty rating (Easy, Medium, Hard), an XP reward, an ROI label (Low, Epic, etc.) showing the expected impact, and a progress bar.

In the demo the list read as a prioritised roadmap rather than decoration, the opposite of a 200-item audit report nobody acts on. It re-prioritises as your metrics change, filters by type (Keywords, Links, Health), and the XP advances you through a space-exploration ladder: Liftoff, Moon Camp, Settlement and beyond.

Picture a local bakery owner who has been told to “do SEO” and sees a wall of data in every tool. In Morningscore the same account produces a mission instead of a 400-keyword spreadsheet: move “boston bakery delivery” from position 14 into the top 5, worth 8 XP, labelled Epic ROI. That is one decision instead of four hundred, and no other tool at this price solves that problem as well.

Keyword research and daily rank tracking

The Research tab takes a seed keyword and returns related terms with search volume, keyword difficulty and CPC. My seed of “AI tools” returned over 950 suggestions, enough to build a content plan without leaving the tool. A Prompt Research feature, new for 2026, explores the prompts people use in ChatGPT and other AI tools around your niche; I have not seen it built this cleanly into another all-in-one. Keywords move into the rank tracker in one click.

Morningscore Rank Tracker showing keyword positions, search volume, visits per month, and daily update frequency

Positions update daily, every 24 hours, which is unusual at this price and useful when you are watching a new page climb or a competitor’s move. You see keyword, location, searches per month, current rank, visits per month and CPC side by side. Three tabs split the work: Google rank tracking, competitor comparison on the same keywords, and a ChatGPT tracker. Keywords can be foldered and mapped to specific landing pages, so you can see which pages pull rankings and which need attention.

Morningscore Link Score section showing backlink profile with gamified score and new/lost link monitoring

Link Score is a single number for the strength and growth of your backlink portfolio, similar in concept to Moz’s Domain Authority but calculated differently. The Links section shows keyword and link performance together, so ranking movements can be read against backlink gains. It monitors new and lost links continuously, sorts by Domain Authority, flags spam links to ignore, and lets you add links you are building that have not been crawled yet. The data source is the catch; see the limitations below.

Site health and the AI Fix button

Morningscore Site Health audit showing technical SEO issues categorized by basic, technical, and optimization types

The Health tab crawls the site and sorts issues into Basic, Technical and Optimization. For broken internal links, missing alt tags and meta description gaps, AI Fix can suggest or apply the fix automatically, including from inside the WordPress plugin (a Shopify app carries the same data). That suits non-technical owners who know they have problems but not how to fix them. Audit history is kept, so you can see whether the health score improves or degrades after site changes.

Does Morningscore track AI and ChatGPT rankings?

Yes, and more concretely than most all-in-one SEO tools, but with two limits that decide whether it fits: it tracks ChatGPT and nothing else, and on the entry plan it tracks ten prompts.

Morningscore ChatGPT Tracker showing AI prompt tracking for GEO visibility monitoring

The AI work is three separate features that get talked about as one:

The AI prompt tracker. You write the prompts your customers would type into ChatGPT, and Morningscore reports whether your brand is named in the answer, with the full response viewable per prompt. You can folder them, add competitors to the same prompts, and work in any language. This is the part with a hard plan limit: 10 prompts on Lite, 100 on Business, 500 on Pro, 2,000 on Premium.

The GEO Score. Separately, Morningscore generates and scores roughly 100 prompts covering your industry and rolls the result into one visibility number on the dashboard. It answers “are we getting mentioned at all” without you having to guess at prompts first.

The AI Overviews tracker. For every keyword already in the rank tracker, Morningscore checks daily whether Google shows an AI Overview and whether you are cited in it or a competitor took the slot. It is not prompt-limited, so it scales with your keyword allowance, which makes it the best-value AI feature on the cheap plans.

The cadence difference nobody mentions

Google keyword positions update daily. AI prompts are re-checked weekly, on a seven-day cycle. That gap is reasonable given what an LLM query costs to run, but you cannot ship a page on Monday and read its ChatGPT effect on Tuesday, and week-to-week movement in a small prompt set is noisy enough that a single check should not be over-read. AI Overviews, being a Google surface, are checked daily like the rest.

It tracks ChatGPT only

Morningscore is direct about this. Its own pricing FAQ says it crawls and reports data from Google and ChatGPT, that other tools offer more, and that it chooses to focus on what it calls the 90% market. There is no Gemini, Claude, Perplexity or Copilot tracking.

In its favour, ChatGPT is the largest assistant by a wide margin and a working ChatGPT tracker beats four half-built ones. Against it, Morningscore’s own blog posts discuss Gemini, Claude and Copilot as part of the shift, which makes the product narrower than its content marketing implies, and Google’s AI Mode, a different surface from AI Overviews, is not tracked either. If you need multi-engine coverage, use a dedicated GEO tracker.

Why AI tracking starts at $99

AI credits are the currency behind the AI features, and they scale steeply: 100 on Lite, 1,000 on Business, 5,000 on Pro, 20,000 on Premium. Next to the 10-prompt limit, the $69 plan lets you confirm the feature exists and watch your GEO Score; it does not let you run an AI visibility programme. Business at $99, with ten times the prompts and ten times the credits, is where it becomes a working tool. For a small business that wants one AI visibility number plus AI Overview alerts on keywords it already tracks, the value is real. For a multi-engine programme, the dedicated tracker in my Visby AI review fits better.

Morningscore pricing after the 2026 increase

All four paid plans come with a 14-day free trial and no credit card required, with full access to rank tracking, keyword research, the site health audit and GEO tracking. Prices below were checked on 12 September 2026, and they have moved: the entry plan was $49 per month and is now $69, with the other three up by $30 to $40 as well. AI credits and tracked prompt allowances roughly doubled at the same time, so the increase bought something. Annual billing saves two months against monthly.

PlanMonthly PriceKeywordsTracked AI promptsAI CreditsWebsitesUsers
Lite$69/mo1001010032
Business$99/mo5001001,000104
Pro$159/mo2,0005005,0003010
Premium$299/mo5,0002,00020,00010020

For solopreneurs and small businesses on one to three sites, Lite at $69 per month covers the classic SEO basics, and 100 keywords is enough for a focused content strategy. Its 10 prompts and 100 AI credits are a sample, not a programme, and the jump from 10 to 100 tracked prompts is the biggest difference between Lite and Business.

Semrush starts at $139 per month and Ahrefs Lite at $129, so Morningscore is cheaper, though the gap has narrowed since the price rise and Ahrefs now has a Starter plan at $100. The trade-off is backlink and keyword depth, which the target user rarely misses.

What G2 reviewers praise and complain about

Morningscore holds 4.5 out of 5 from 27 reviews on G2, with 70% five-star, 22% four-star and 7% one-star. There is no cluster of mid-range disappointment, which usually means the product does what it says for the people it is built for. Still, 27 reviews is a small sample and vendor-collected reviews skew positive everywhere, so read it as a signal rather than a verdict.

The complaints are consistent: several reviewers want more missions, a few were slow to notice new features shipping, and price comes up, which lands harder now that the entry plan is $69 rather than $49. More than one describes a good roadmap that is still filling out. The praise clusters on support: fast bug fixes and direct access to the founders, and Morningscore offers human onboarding and training rather than a docs page and a chatbot. If support at enterprise SEO tools has been a ticket queue for you, that is an underrated part of the price.

Where Morningscore falls short

Beyond the ChatGPT-only AI tracking covered above:

  • Backlink data is Moz-powered. Keyword and backlink data come from third-party sources including Moz, whose index is smaller and refreshes less often than Ahrefs or Semrush’s own crawlers. Competitor link profiles and gap analysis come back incomplete. Fine for catching your own lost links, wrong for outreach campaigns.
  • One country per domain. Targeting multiple regions means duplicating the domain as separate projects, and those keywords count against your plan limit twice.
  • Keyword depth is mid-tier. 950-plus suggestions from a seed is enough to plan content; Ahrefs’ 30+ billion keyword database is in a different league for research breadth.
  • No content editor. You learn what to target and get no help writing it to a scoring standard, unlike Semrush or Surfer.
  • Keyword caps bite early. 100 keywords on Lite is fine for a focused site and restrictive for anything with a content library.
  • The AI content automation tab is untested here. It exists in the product and I have not run it (I build content through my own research workflow), so treat any claim about its output as unverified.
  • SEO Score is a modelled dollar figure. It estimates traffic value, not revenue, and should not be reported to anyone as income.
  • XP is not proof of results. Completing a mission does not mean it moved rankings, and the ROI labels are the tool’s projection.

Morningscore vs Semrush, Ahrefs and rank trackers

AlternativePricePick it instead when
AhrefsFrom $129 per monthLink building or competitive backlink research is the actual job, where the index difference decides everything
SemrushFrom $139 per monthYou need a content editor, PPC data and a larger keyword database in one platform
Ubersuggest$29 per month, or $290 one-time lifetime for the Individual tierBudget is the deciding factor and a one-time licence matters more than daily updates or guided tasks

Semrush has a larger keyword database (over 26 billion keywords), more granular backlink data, a content marketing toolkit and deeper PPC analytics, built for agencies and in-house teams. Morningscore wins on usability, price, gamification and GEO tracking, and gives a beginner 80% of what they need at about half the price ($69 against $139).

Ahrefs is arguably the best backlink tool on the market with an excellent keyword explorer. At $129 it costs about what Morningscore’s Pro plan does and is far stronger for competitive research and link building, but for a small business owner it is overkill: a steeper learning curve, no guided missions and a data-heavy dashboard. Start with Morningscore and move to Ahrefs if you outgrow it.

Dedicated rank trackers such as RankTracker, AccuRanker or Wincher track more granularly, with more location options and SERP feature tracking, but you get rankings and not much else. If you want the most accurate rank tracker specifically, AccuRanker may do it better; if you want tracking alongside research, backlinks, audits and GEO, Morningscore wins.

Morningscore FAQ

What is the best SEO tool for beginners?

Morningscore is one of the easiest SEO tools to start with, alongside SE Ranking and the budget option in my Ubersuggest review. Its guided missions and clean dashboards cover most small business SEO needs without technical expertise. Semrush and Ahrefs are more powerful but much steeper to learn.

Should I track every keyword I find in Morningscore?

No. Keyword limits apply to all plans (100 on Lite, up to 5,000 on Premium). Track keywords where you already rank between positions 5-30 (quick win territory) and keywords tied to pages or products you are actively growing, and let the missions list prioritise from there.

How do I get mentioned by ChatGPT and other AI tools?

The same work that earns a Google ranking earns an AI citation. Assistants pull from pages that answer a question directly and are already visible in search, so clear answers near the top of the page, specific factual detail and topical authority are what move it. Morningscore measures this rather than optimising it: it shows which prompts you appear in so you can see whether the work landed.

My verdict five years on

My rating: 4 out of 5. I liked Morningscore five years ago and like it more now, with the same caveats intact. The GEO side is real rather than marketing, and the missions keep you doing SEO consistently, which matters more than which tool you use. What has not changed is the backlink ceiling: Moz-powered data will not carry a competitive link campaign, and one country per domain will decide it for anyone international.

If you have been putting SEO off because every tool feels like a spreadsheet in a costume, this is the one most likely to get you to follow through, and the card-free trial means finding out costs nothing. Run your site through the missions for 14 days. If it clicks, $69 is fair for the classic SEO side and $99 is the number to budget if AI tracking is what sold you. Expect to outgrow it if you get serious about links.
